Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Hey, what the f...!

Well, I come back, scroll around a bit and think, "whoaa, the folks are really giving me some feedback," what with a few thousand posts on my MP3 thread. Then I start reading them...what an education.

Now this is coming from the idiot that started and deleted a touchy feely post yesterday about all of us sharing one with one another (hmmm, maybe I am that feel good stereotype the guy was talking about? Nah, it was just the drugs since they do still make me feel good), but seeing as how Dire set me straight on not having to feel bad about MP3s (I had seen exactly what he described as to those that look down their noses), and that he pushed me in the direction of his 1987 show (love Watchtower!), and given all the other help I rec'd in the past 48 hrs from folks here (I am now happily converting shns to wavs and producing CDs like nobody's business) that are speaking up for him, is to say Dire and the rest of the folks here speaking on his behalf are doing something right, and I ain't seen nor heard nor read nothing to make me change my mind.

I am only a newbie, but don't mind the title at all.

William Tell: (one of the best names ever - on any forum) - somewhere in the midst of the all the activity here you mention the poor quality of Dick's Picks recordings - which it true for a lot of them.

I've got one that is a great recording from two shows in '77 (DP #29, 5/19 & 21/1977, 6-discs) that you should really check out. Completely different incarnation of the band from both your favorite era and the '72/'73 era, but it is really, really pure Grateful Dead. The 2nd set of both shows are phenomenal but one, in particular, has a 4-minute jam out of "China Doll" in which Jerry does a once-in-a-lifetime Jerry jam - don't want to mislead you - it's not the thunderous cascading wave of your favorite era, however he is truly channeling something from deep, deep down in the band's consciousness or the cosmos - coming from the same place as that moment in 5/19/1970 only this is 7 years later --- to the day!

Hey Dire--much appreciated. Have to spend a great deal of time catching up with all I have to listen to, but will keep your offer in mind (already figured I only had to ask anyhow, so I must be settling in). And thanks for your kind words as well.

As long as you continue to see the humor in it, I will laugh along as well; have a good Monday and forget about it all.

Man, I could have gone on all night as to the problems with what was being sold...not to take it too seriously, but this is a community and this stuff is, yes, at some level, sacred. Any community is judged by its participants and their actions, and there is no doubt this community warrants respect. And that just wasn't respectful.

Its fine to get mad (as you allow), but to be so angry from the start, that is just sad, really. Well, back to the music.

to be honest, i am one of the worst offenders in starting fights with people with whom i feel are offending either my sensibilities or my forum friends. i have a very bad reputation here and sometimes it is warrented - thanfully, my LMA friends are forgiving and friendly towards my faux paxs. i am quick to attack and slow to back down - certainly a negative to my personality - most of the LMA tribe has been able to look past that and hopefully you can too. sorry for flappin :)

hey william,

don't worry about being too touchy feely. it's a far better direction to lead the forum toward than some of last nights venom.

you - AZ, prof.. forgot the third question?
me - 'arts archivist', ont.

Ha--they were 'who, how, & where' but probably best for us all to communicate in relative obscurity and for the info to trickle out in bits and pieces as we move along in the forum anyhow, as it has been...

Thanks again for the help with 70s shows--enjoying them now. Glad to be back with the era I lived through with the boys.

Ya, me too. Logged in, and prior to reading all the back and forth, thought, hmm, the forum is lively tonite. Turned out to be lively with tooth and claw and our man Direwolf on a feeding frenzy.

"Dire and the rest of the folks here speaking on his behalf are doing something right, and I ain't seen nor heard nor read nothing to make me change my mind."

Couldn't agree more. Said well, William Tell.

Morning's coming early & it's gotten late. I logged in to check the mail & posts & it seems I missed a lively evening. I guess that goes to show what can wander in sometimes...

Dire, I gotta say you handled things with a certain panache--a wolfen style we've come to appreciate. You, and many of those who weighed in tonight are indeed well-respected--and highly thought of--members of this forum. I'm glad things seemed to have reached a much-cooler pitch with TTG.

As for the two interlopers, they rather remind me of what were called "cell warriors" in the joint. These fellas were always sounding off & talking tough when the doors were locked; but once those doors opened, they'd already shaved their legs & brought an appropriate lubricant.

Peace, guys.
